  • Director of Development and Alumni Affairs

    Reporting directly to the Headmaster, the Director of Development and Alumni Affairs will be a key member of the school’s senior leadership team and will partner across the extended Groton community in gathering the financial support and broad engagement of alumni, parents, families, friends, and donors to propel the school to further success. There are few educational institutions that can claim a prouder and more engaged extended community than Groton’s. The school boasts a robust network of alumni throughout the U.S. and the world, and many alumni enjoy lifelong involvement with the Circle. The school’s current and past parents are exceptionally engaged and supportive of Groton School. Among our peer schools, the parent and alumni participation levels are second to none.

    The next Director of Development and Alumni Affairs will lead a comprehensive strategic advancement operation to amplify Groton’s identity and impact, broaden engagement and stewardship, and increase the visibility of its achievements and ambitions. As a representative for the school in public settings all over the world, the Director will work closely with the Headmaster and Board of Trustees to navigate fundraising responsibilities and external engagement. The Director is expected to cultivate, solicit, and steward transformational philanthropic support to advance Groton’s mission and will be responsible for helping a team identify and manage all donor and partner relationships to build a robust pipeline for Groton. In addition to strategic and operational leadership, the Director will partner closely with the Headmaster to manage a leadership gifts portfolio and will have the opportunity to build and guide, reimagining where it is needed, an outstanding team of development and alumni affairs professionals devoted to engaging Groton’s dedicated alumni, parents, families, friends, and donors.   • English Teacher

    Groton School invites applicants for a full-time English position starting September 2025. We are seeking a dynamic candidate with a strong interest in writing pedagogy and in teaching literature from a wide range of periods, voices and cultures. The successful candidate will join a department committed to the School’s ideals of diversity and inclusion. Responsibilities will include teaching four courses of English in collaboration with other experienced members of the department. 

    Faculty members are also expected to contribute to the extracurricular life of the school and share some dormitory and residential school responsibilities. Qualifications, therefore, include a demonstrated interest in coaching or coordinating extracurricular activities and a willingness to fulfill evening and weekend duties.
     
    Teachers are provided with living quarters, meals in the school Dining Hall, utilities (except for telephone), and medical insurance.

  • Math/Computer Science Teacher

    Groton School is seeking a mathematics teacher beginning in September 2025. The successful candidate will work with the guidance of experienced members of the department. Interested candidates should have a B.A. or B.S. in Mathematics or a mathematics-related field and be willing to teach the full range of high school math, from Algebra 1 through Calculus. The ability to teach higher level electives—Statistics, Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Computer Science—is a plus. 

    Three or more years of mathematics teaching at the high school level is preferred.

    Faculty members are also expected to contribute to the extracurricular life of the school and share some dormitory and residential school responsibilities. Qualifications, therefore, include a demonstrated interest in coaching or coordinating extracurricular activities and a willingness to fulfill evening and weekend duties.

  • Physics Teacher

    Groton School is seeking a full-time Physics teacher, a faculty position, beginning in September 2025. Responsibilities will include teaching four courses in Physics in collaboration with other experienced members of the department. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching physics at the high school level. Experience teaching in a fabrication lab or maker space is also desirable.

    Faculty members are also expected to contribute to the extracurricular life of the school and share some dormitory and residential school responsibilities. Qualifications, therefore, include a demonstrated interest in coaching or coordinating extracurricular activities and a willingness to fulfill evening and weekend duties.

Teaching Fellow Program

  • Charles C. Alexander Teaching Fellow Program

    Groton School, a coeducational boarding school in Groton, Massachusetts, welcomes applicants to the Charles C. Alexander Teaching Fellow Program. This program serves recent college graduates interested in working under supervision to develop the varied skills required of secondary boarding school teachers. The program offers as wide an exposure as possible to all aspects of boarding school life.

    The teaching fellow's responsibilities will include teaching two classes under the supervision of an experienced member of the department as well as observation of other classes. The fields open to fellows are English, History, Mathematics, Classics, French, Spanish, Chinese, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Religion, and the Arts (not Art History), but the departments with openings vary from year to year. Openings will be listed on this page. Fellows also help coach athletics during at least two but preferably three seasons, assist in dormitory supervision one or two evenings per week and every fourth Saturday evening (or as needed), and participate in other areas of school life commensurate with their interests and talents.

    Teaching fellow appointments are one-year, salaried positions. Also provided are living quarters, meals in the school's Dining Hall, and full utilities, except for telephone. Medical insurance is offered, with recipients paying a small percentage of the premium for the plan chosen.

Staff Positions

  • Part-Time Safety Officer

    The Buildings and Grounds Department is seeking to fill two part-time campus safety officer positions on Groton School’s Safety Office Team.

    Position 1: The shift for this position is 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday when school is in session

    Position 2: The shift for this position is 3:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m. - Friday, Saturday, Sunday

    Applicants must possess a valid and unencumbered Massachusetts driver’s license, a Massachusetts Class “A” firearms permit and First Responder/CPR training. The selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-hire occupational physical.

    Candidates will have a positive attitude with very good interpersonal skills for performing work duties among students, faculty, staff and guests on campus.

    Snow shoveling and occasional heavy lifting is required.

    This position requires police training or correctional officer training.

    A 10% hourly shift differential is paid for second and third shifts.

  • Per Diem Nurse

    Groton School is seeking registered nurse to work in the school’s Health Center on a per diem (as-needed) basis, beginning in June. 

    Shifts are in 12-hour blocks and may vary between days, nights and weekends. 

    The ideal candidates will have experience working with adolescents in an office, urgent care, emergency room, school setting, or have other relevant nursing experience.

    Job responsibilities include:
    • first aid assessment
    • prescribed treatment of illness and injury
    • medication administration
    • triage
    • emergency response
    • electronic medical documentation in a school setting. 
    Candidates should have a bachelor's in nursing with current Massachusetts RN license, a minimum of three years of nursing experience, and excellent communication skills.

  • Part-time Medical Chaperone

    Groton School is seeking part-time medical chaperones to transport students to off-campus appointments.
     
    These are on-call positions during the Groton School academic year (early September through June).  
     
    Responsibilities include:
    • Driving students to and from off-campus medical and behavioral health visits (in areas including, but not limited to, Boston and Manchester, NH).
    Requirements:
    • A valid driver’s license and a good driving record
    • A clean and reliable passenger vehicle 
    • Evidence of adequate liability and collision automobile insurance
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality
    • Knowledge of adolescent issues and basic familiarity with the health care environment are helpful.
